On the move

We left Boothbay heading to Camden since it was Friday and that's the zip code we left with USPS for our mail call. As we rolled into Rockland, Susan said to stop. We were at the Maine State Prison Store where tables, furniture, wood carvings, knick knacks, etc., made by the prisoners were for sale. The items were of a high quality and I never found out were the money went but did find that about 130 of the 900 prisoners participated in making the items.

Our next stop was in Owls Head at the Transportation Museum, a fairly new museum of airplanes, cars, motorcycles and anything else that comes under the heading of transportation. This picture is of a very early model REO that is owned by John Harris. In the room behind here was an area that modeled a older mechanics garage. There was a video of NASCAR racing and some of the drivers on the old beach course in Daytona Beach. When I was in high school i used to sell programs for the France family and got into the races free.

Next stop was in Rockland for lunch and then a short drive to Rockport harbor, a really picturesque place.
This isn't the best pictur but my favorite boat was the one on the left with blue hull.

Here Susan is telling Shadow the story of Andre the seal who was born in 1961 and lived in Rockland harbor. He was found abandoned by his mother and raised by a professional scuba diver, Harry Goodridge. Andre spent his summers in Rockland harbor and entertained visitors with tricks that he was taught by Goodridge. Andre died in 1978 and later Goodridge wrote a book about Andre which in 1994 was made into a movie.

We arrived at the post office in Camden and found that our package had not arrived so we found the Camden Hills State Park and signed up for three nights.
