More Camden

Mother's day in Camden. The first thing on our list was to do a couple loads at the neighborhood laundromat. Then downtown to enjoy a Mother's Day lunch in the upper level of Cappie's on the Waterfront overlooking what you see below. That done we went down to the other side of the harbor. Again, more large wooden sailing ships and many empty mooring balls waiting for the season to begin. Isn't this a great sight?

Camden Hills State Park encompasses 5,700 acres that includes both 780' Mount Battie and 1,385' Mount Megunticook which is the highest point on the mainland eastern coast. You can hike to either but only drive to Mount Battie which we chose to do. This tower, built in 1921, is a memorial to the service rendered by the men and women of Camden in World War I from 1914 to 1918.

This is the panoramic view of Penobscot Bay and the harbor of Camden from the top of Mount Battie. The park was one of many that was built back in the 1930's by the same CCC that built Fort Clinch SP in Fernandina Beach and more parks in 23 other states.
